At the EWC’s 2014 Annual General Meeting held in Brussels on 2 November 2014, the following statement was agreed:

 The EWC is for

  • secured and adequate remuneration, and fair contracts
  • the implementation of PLR in every country, both in e- and print books

The EWC is against

  • new exceptions and limitations in education or any other area in copyright
  • any increase in VAT on books, particularly that currently proposed in Iceland

And the following key issues were identified:

  • the increasingly predatory role played by global conglomerates in the book industry and the threat from monopolies

Finally, the EWC forcefully states that:

Free is not an option when it comes to authors’ work!
