At the EWC’s 2014 Annual General Meeting held in Brussels on 2 November 2014, the following statement was agreed:
The EWC is for
- secured and adequate remuneration, and fair contracts
- the implementation of PLR in every country, both in e- and print books
The EWC is against
- new exceptions and limitations in education or any other area in copyright
- any increase in VAT on books, particularly that currently proposed in Iceland
And the following key issues were identified:
- the increasingly predatory role played by global conglomerates in the book industry and the threat from monopolies
AND
Finally, the EWC forcefully states that:
Free is not an option when it comes to authors’ work!
